“I know that my wife is in good hands at Ovation. It will be nice to continue my pace and know she is okay and enjoying everything that Ovation has to offer.”
Erik and Barbara Nilsson have enjoyed quite the active life in SunRiver, Utah. But as Erik explained, the couple was ready for a change.
Now, with Barbara’s health, the couple has slowed down a little. But Ovation is a huge help and allows Erik to continue at a pace reserved for men 30 years younger.
When Erik says active, he isn’t kidding. Since retiring 25 years ago, he’s rarely slowed down.
“I’ve been on the SunRiver Homeowners Association Board of Directors for four years,” he explained. “I’m also a member of several clubs and love to go to lectures at Dixie State University.”
On a typical day, Erik will have no fewer than three items on his calendar.
“We used to go to the theatre, concerts, football games, basketball games, and soccer games.”

“I got more involved in the community after retirement,” Erik added. “I was an electrical engineer for 36 years, working on aircraft for a private company under government contract.”
During his career, Erik would put in 12- to 14-hour days, six or seven days a week.
“I just loved doing that job. It was fun.”
Barbara worked in sales.
After 31 years of marriage, the couple shares five children and seven grandchildren who live across the U.S., from California to Tennessee.
Ovation will be a chance for the family to come see Erik and Barbara. In the meantime, Erik is already planning out his itinerary for the coming years.
